Introduction and Research Topics

The Department of Mathematics at IRIMAS brings together all of the University of Haute-Alsace’s (UHA) research capabilities in mathematics. Located on the Illberg campus in Mulhouse, it is a center of academic excellence combining fundamental research, interdisciplinary collaborations, and high-level education.

The department is staffed by a team of about ten tenured faculty members and several associate members, organized into two main research areas.

The Teams

Outreach and Collaborations

Le département joue un rôle central dans l’écosystème scientifique régional et national :

  • Internal synergies: In keeping with the spirit of the IRIMAS institute, mathematicians collaborate closely with the Computer Science and Automation (ASI) departments, particularly through the co-supervision of interdisciplinary theses.

  • MaGE Federation: Since 2025, the department has been a founding member of the CNRS Federation for Mathematical Research in the Grand Est region (MaGE), alongside the laboratories in Strasbourg, Metz, Nancy, and Reims, with the aim of promoting mathematical excellence at the regional level.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

The department offers the Master's in Mathematical Engineering and Data Science (IMDS), addressing the growing need for data analysis. Deeply committed to society, it also leads numerous Science for Society initiatives and science outreach (workshops, MathC2+ programs) in schools.
