Computer Science

Introduction and Research Topics

The Computer Science Department at IRIMAS brings together all computer science researchers at the University of Haute-Alsace (UHA). It is organized around three specialized research teams:

  • OMeGA: Optimization by Metaheuristics, alGorithmics, and modelizAtion.

  • MSD: Modeling and Data Science.

  • RT: Networks and Telecommunications

The staff consists of about thirty full-time employees. Geographically, the MSD and OMeGA are based on the Illberg campus at ENSISA in Mulhouse, while the RT is located in Colmar, at the IUT.

Objectives and Unifying Theme

The department has chosen big data as the central focus of its work. In response to the massive increase in data generated by connected environments, our researchers are developing innovative concepts and tools to manage the complexity of today’s systems.

  • Acquisition and Transfer: Expertise in networks and telecommunications.

  • Storage and Processing: Methods of Data Analysis and Mining.

  • Value Creation: Using artificial intelligence and optimization.

Collaborations and Interdisciplinarity

The department also maintains close ties with other disciplines at the institute, particularly through collaborations with the departments of Control Engineering (ASI) and Mathematics. This openness is reflected in a strong commitment to cutting-edge programs, such as the Master’s in Mathematical Engineering and Data Science.

The Teams

MSD

The research conducted by the MSD team focuses on modeling and data science, with an emphasis on theories and algorithms that enable the extraction of insights from large volumes of data generated by computer systems.
