The History of the Institute

The four-year period from January 2011 to June 2016 saw largely positive developments for MIPS (Modeling, Intelligence, Processes, Systems) and LMIA (Laboratory of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Applications) across all their areas of activity: growth in staff numbers, scientific output, national and international scientific collaborations, partnerships with industry, as well as research contracts and thesis contracts.

Historically, computer science at the University of Haute-Alsace was divided between these two laboratories, but long-standing and regular collaborations existed. Discussions between the computer science teams, between the two laboratories, and with the UHA’s research administration then revealed both a demand from the computer scientists and the UHA’s research administration, and a need for some form of consolidation of research activities.
